Singer-songwriter and composer Meklit is set to release her third full length solo album This Was Made Here on Six Degrees Records in Spring 2017. Produced by GRAMMY winning songwriter/producer Dan Wilson (Adele, John Legend, Dixie Chicks), and inspired by Dr. Mulatu Astatke (the Godfather of Ethio-Jazz), the songs are a danceable celebration of Ethiopian grooves and pentatonic melodies, with bumping horn lines and poetic impact.

Meklit is a cultural activist, TED Senior Fellow, and Co-Founder of the Nile Project. Meklit was also a featured singer in both An African Tribute to James Brown (a project of musical legend Pee Wee Ellis), as well as in the UN Women Theme Song, One Woman. She has received musical commissions from both Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, as well as the prestigious MAP Fund, and her music and projects have been featured by NPR, The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post, BBC, Seattle Times and many more.
